Rigid heddle weaving (1)   £80

On this Beginners workshop you will learn how to select your weaving materials, warp the loom and weave a lovely runner or scarf in your chosen colour way all in one day. The landscape of the Brecon Beacons inspires creativity whatever the season. This is a day to forget the stresses of daily life, to return to the skills we used to value more, and to have a lot of fun – you will never think of cloth the same way again!

Although the rigid heddle loom is a simple piece of equipment, it is possible to weave beautiful pieces with it. It is the ideal introduction to weaving, and from here you can move on to weaving with a 4 shaft or eight shaft table loom or floor loom if you wish.

Rigid heddle weaving (2)   £80

‘Many thanks for a great day yesterday.  Really enjoyed learning about pickup sticks and delighted with the resulting sampler.’  Andrea Dec 2018

If you have caught the weaving bug you will soon want to explore more of what the rigid heddle loom offers - it is surprisingly versatile and can produce effects similar to those achieved on a shaft loom.  On my improvers weaving days you will learn some of the following techniques to make a beautiful sampler wall hanging or table mat:

Option 1:  Finger manipulated - Leno, Brook’s Bouquet, Danish Medallions, Spanish Lace, Candlewick

Option 2:  Pick up stick - weft floats for lace variations; warp and weft floats for mock waffle

For available dates see the calendar

Band weaving            £80

Using a specially designed heddle and shuttle you will learn how to weave a beautiful cotton band using the pick up technique.  Pattern threads are raised and lowered to make a surface decoration on your band.

On the course you will make a decorated band which you can use for a wide variety of purposes.

Use of all equipment and materials for the course are included.
